Mercedes Benz G 55 AMG

INTRODUCTION

The Mercedes-Benz G-Class redefines your perception of an extreme off road vehicle. Its almost impenetrable body is constructed in a specialist facility with over 4,600 welds and steel up to 4mm thick. And yet in complete contrast to its rugged exterior, its luxurious interior epitomises design refinement. With two model variants, the G-Class doesn’t just push the limits, it surpasses them. Whether you choose the G 350 BlueTEC for the extreme adventurer or the G 55 AMG with its earth shattering power, there’s no place you’ll fear to tread.

ENGINES

G 350 BlueTEC

The G-Class engines combine tremendous power with improved fuel economy and reduced emissions. The V6 diesel engine in the G 350 BlueTEC, for example, develops 155 kW and has a top speed of 175 km/h. Its maximum torque rating of 540 Nm is developed at 1600 rpm and remains constant to 2400 rpm. The G 350 BlueTEC delivers this power to the road via the 7G-TRONIC automatic transmission.

Featuring enhanced low-emission BlueTEC technology, the new G 350 BlueTEC delivers 155 kW of power. BlueTEC catalytic converter technology uses the urea solution AdBlue® for exhaust gas after-treatment, making it an exceptionally clean diesel system. AdBlue® can now be added externally (in the same way as fuel), even when driving off-road.

Boasting exemplary emission figures, low fuel consumption, superior performance and a high torque rating of 540 Nm, the G 350 BlueTEC leads by example.

G 55 AMG

The G 55 AMG also delivers impressive technical data. The 5.5 litre V8 supercharged engine develops 373 kW of power and a maximum torque rating of 700 Nm. Its looks are also a thrilling proposition, thanks to AMG 5-spoke alloy wheels finished in titanium grey, 275/55 R19 tyres, body-coloured flared wheel arches, an AMG exhaust system with twin side-exiting tailpipes, a radiator grille with chrome highlights and trim strips in brushed aluminium with AMG logo. The G 55 AMG suspension has been configured for dynamic handling with extra stiff shock absorbers – without restricting the vehicle’s off-road capabilities.

TRANSMISSIONS

The G 350 BlueTEC is equipped as standard with the 7G-TRONIC automatic transmission. The system skips gears when necessary and gear changes are virtually imperceptible. The ideal transmission ratio is always selected, enabling you to enjoy a dynamic handling experience.

The G 55 AMG features the tried-and-trusted 5-speed automatic transmission which transfers the immense power and high torque of the AMG engine to the wheels with consummate ease.

CHASSIS

Thanks to a combination of sophisticated AWD system, long suspension travel and precisely positioned rigid axles, the G-Class can master virtually any terrain. Unlike conventional independent suspensions, when a G-Class wheel rolls over an obstacle such as a large stone, the axle housing is automatically lifted with it.

The G-Class can master gradients of up to 80% (depending on the terrain), remains stable on transversal slopes of up to 54% and can ford watercourses with a depth of up to 0.5 metres.

The G-Class is equally at home on the road thanks to superb handling based on perfect coordination of chassis, transmission, powertrain and wheel suspension. Enhanced safety and stability are provided by the Electronic Stability Program (ESP®) and Brake Assist (BAS). The G-Class also offers the Electronic Traction System (4ETS) as well as three 100% differential locks.

INTERIOR COMFORT

Generous interior space is a major feature of the G-Class. It delivers superb travel comfort on longer journeys or on even terrain.

The position of the front seats can be adjusted electrically. Standard specification includes heated seats, and an armrest with stowage compartment between the front seats. The characteristically high seating position guarantees an excellent all-round view at all times and the cockpit design ensures a great overview of the controls.

You will love the attention to detail invested in the multi-function leather steering wheel for the G 350 BlueTEC, and the designo Anthracite poplar / leather steering wheel for the G 55 AMG. And once you have parked, the steering wheel swivels upwards to make getting out even easier. The G-Class always offers five-star service.

COMAND APS MULTIMEDIA SYSTEM

The COMAND APS multimedia system with high-performance hard-drive navigation delivers information, communication, navigation and entertainment. It combines the operation of a navigation system, radio, 6-disc CD/DVD changer and telephone.

With the integrated LINGUATRONIC voice-operated control system you can operate all the multimedia, communications and navigation functions easily and conveniently using voice input. As a further function, COMAND APS offers you the possibility to play MP3 / WMA data from the internal memory (4 GB MUSIC REGISTER). The TV tuner for analogue and digital TV reception is standard on the G 55 AMG and optional on the G 350 BlueTec.

The standard rear-view camera mounted on the tailgate displays the area around the rear of the vehicle on a 16.5 cm colour display. In conjunction with the ultrasonic reversing aid, the driver enjoys added safety when manoeuvring on difficult terrain or parking.

Media Interface

A media interface including cables for iPod, USB and 3.5mm AUX-IN connectivity is standard equipment. This enables the connection of mobile audio devices – for instance an MP3 player (iPod® etc.).

Harman Kardon® Logic 7® surround sound system

The standard Harman Kardon® Logic 7® surround-sound system will provide just the right sound experience, with its 450-watt output and perfectly adjusted surround sound system in Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS technology.

Rear-seat entertainment system

Great entertainment for passengers in the rear comes courtesy of the rear-seat entertainment system. Featuring twin 7-inch colour screens and integrated DVD players on the front-seat head restraints, as well as two sets of headphones and a range of connection options, you can watch films or connect a games console. Passengers can even watch television thanks to the TV tuner (standard on G 55 AMG, optional on G 350 BlueTEC).

CLIMATE CONTROL

As you travel in hot or cold weather or through wind and rain, the interior of the G-Class remains constant at the temperature of your preferred comfort level. Simply use the THERMATIC automatic climate control to set the interior temperature individually for the driver and front seat passenger. The system is incredibly precise as the THERMATIC functions are based on sensor information containing data on the interior and exterior temperature and humidity.

MULTIFUNCTION STEERING

The G-Class driver has everything within easy reach thanks to the standard-specification multifunction steering wheel (leather-covered in the G 350 BlueTEC, and designo Anthracite poplar / leather in the G 55 AMG). At the push of a button, you can access comprehensive information via the multifunction display, adjust comfort settings, and operate the radio and telephone.

THE SEATING COMFORT OF THE G-CLASS

After a prolonged drive in the G-Class many like to remain seated just a little longer. The reason: newly-designed seating which leaves absolutely nothing to be desired. In the front seats with their optimised head restraints you can preset your preferred seating position electrically. The memory function stores the settings for seat, head restraint and steering wheel positions.

Standard equipment for the G-Class also includes heated front seats and a front armrest with a stowage compartment and cup holder. NECK-PRO luxury head restraints for the front seat are standard, and if you want to take comfort a stage further, rear seat heating is available as an optional extra.

The seat comfort package (optional on G 350 BlueTec, standard on G 55 AMG) includes multicontour and climatised seats for driver and front passenger. The multicontour seats enhance seating comfort and reduce back muscle fatigue on longer journeys. The seat profile and backrest/seat cushion firmness are fully adjustable, ensuring maximum lateral support, even on poor surfaces.

The climatised seats improve ride comfort and reduce transpiration with a pleasant air flow. Integrated in the seat upholstery are fans which uniformly distribute a flow of air under the leather cover of the backrest and cushions. The air flows through the fine perforation and quickly cools down the surface of the seats to a pleasant temperature – even if the vehicle has been heated by intense sunlight for a longer period of time. On cold days you can turn on the seat heating, which guarantees together with the air flow that wet clothes dry faster.

LOAD COMPARTMENT

Anyone who opts for a genuine cross-country vehicle generally has a thirst for freedom. The G-Class interior caters to this with generous interior space and numerous seating configurations. From 2-seater to 5-seater, almost anything is possible with the G-Class. And a boot capacity of up to 2250 litres provides enough room for a round-the-world trip, let alone a visit to the golf course. The choice is yours

SAFETY CONCEPT

When you drive the G-Class, you instantly delegate a number of key tasks. You will have a host of electronic aids at your disposal that can be activated in critical situations. If the system identifies a danger of skidding, for example, the Electronic Stability Program (ESP®) kicks in. It restricts engine torque, applies braking to one or more wheels and stabilises the vehicle.

In the event of emergency braking, Brake Assist (BAS) delivers the necessary braking pressure. At the same time, the anti-lock braking system (ABS) developed and modified especially for the G-Class, and the 4ETS Electronic Traction System for AWD vehicles help you to stay in control of your G-Class in challenging situations.

Should an accident occur nevertheless, occupants are protected by driver/front-passenger airbags and windowbags. Crash-responsive NECK-PRO luxury head restraints for the front seats can significantly reduce the risk of whiplash injury in the event of a rear-end collision.

OFF-ROAD CAPABILITY

When meeting the challenges off the beaten track, the driver receives additional assistance from the transfer case's off-road ratio - specified as standard. One press of the low-range switch is all it takes to activate this feature. The transfer case then switches from the on-road ratio to the off-road ratio, generating low speed and maximum traction, and a stunning gradient-climbing capability of up to 80% (depending on the terrain). The permanent all-wheel drive, the 4ETS electronic traction system, the synchronised transfer case and the three 100% differential locks, all work together in perfect harmony in the G-Class.

The differential locks can be activated individually and in a logically specified sequence. This way you can adapt the vehicle perfectly to its surroundings. If a wheel loses traction, the power is redirected to the wheels offering the best grip. Even if only one wheel is providing grip, your vehicle will still make good headway.
